To strengthen the capacity of security personnel in the Hong local government area of Adamawa State, the Hoba Elders Forum has donated two Hilux vehicles to the Police and twelve motorcycles to Vigilantes in Hong local government to complement the fight against crime and criminality in the area.

The donation by the forum is to complement security efforts in the maintenance of peace and tranquillity across the local government.

Presenting the keys of the vehicles to the State Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola at Hong local government secretariat Monday, Mr. Attah Mustapha noted that the donation was to assist the Police in the task of protecting the lives and properties of the citizenry.

He said the vehicles were facilitated by the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Barrister Boss Mustapha for Hong Police Divisional Headquarters and Garaha Police Station to enable their counter-attacks on communities in the local government area.

Receiving the keys, the State Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola expressed gratitude for the gesture and promised that the vehicles would be used for the purpose intended.

He warned vigilantes and Hunters against detaining suspects, explained that no law has permitted them to do so, but handover suspects to the Police for prosecution, advising them to follow up the case to a logical conclusion.

Earlier, in an address, the Acting Chairman Hoba Elders Forum Barrister Alheri Bulus Nyako reiterated the commitment of the forum to providing vigilantes and hunters with support to enable them to continue in protecting communities.

“We know that the vigilantes need more support, and HEF is committed to providing them with more support because they deserve it, we will continue to encourage Vigilantes to put in their best efforts in the protection of our community along with other security formations.”

“There is no better support to give the Police at this point than mobility. It is recognition of the tremendous efforts of the police formations in protecting the local govt,” he said.

He advised security agencies in the local government to synergize with each other on the task of securing the community, while community leaders should support and cooperate with security agencies.

“The HEF advises very strongly that all the security formations in the Local Govt should cooperate and collaborate effectively on the task of securing the community. Furthermore, our community leaders at home, especially the District Heads at home, especially the District Heads must provide the needed cooperation and support to the security formations,” he said.

Nyako thanked the former SGF Barr Boss Mustapha for his contribution to the country and being an ambassador to Hoba which placed Hoba people and Hoba land on the path of irreversible progress.

Also speaking, the Chairman Security committee of the forum, retired Major-General Zakaria Yakubu challenged people not to leave security matters to security agencies alone but contribute their quota towards the maintenance of law and order.

In a remark, the chairman of the Hong local government council, Usman Inuwa Waganda reminded beneficiaries of the motorcycles are not personal but intended to assist them in the discharge of their duties.

In his message, Lamido Adamawa, Doctor Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustafa who was represented by Wakili Alkalai Adamawa Justice Nathan Musa reminded the District Heads and other traditional rulers not to accommodate strangers in their domain without informing security agencies and higher authorities.
