The 8th Assembly of Adamawa State has elected Hon. Bathiya Wesley from the Hong constituency as the Speaker.

In the same vein, Hon. Buba Mohammed Jijiwa representing Jada/Mbulo constituency was also elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.

Both the Speaker and his Deputy emerged unopposed.

Immediately after the election, the speaker was sworn in by the Clerk to the Assembly Umar Usman Hamid, and later the speaker was sworn Deputy Speaker and other members.

Before the election, the Clerk to the Assembly, Umar Usman Hamid read a letter on the floor of the house forwarded by the Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri proclamation for the opening of the new Assembly.

In his inaugural sitting, the new speaker, Hon. Bathiya Wesley thanked the members for the honour and confidence reposed in him and promised to justify it.

Bathiya promised to carry all the members along regardless of party affiliation and solicit their support to work for the interest of the state.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, while addressing members of the Assembly, called on them to work in line with the provision of the constitution and the house’s standing orders.

Fintiri assured his administration’s commitment to providing more people-oriented projects across the state.
