…DSS invites Bawa for questioning.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate suspension of AbdulRasheed Bawa from office as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Wednesday explains that the suspension is a result of the “weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.”

It further said that the suspension was to allow for a proper investigation into Bawa’s conduct while in office.

Following the indefinite suspension, Abdulkarim Chukkol, the anti-graft agency’s director of operations has been directed by the President to oversee the affairs of the commission as the acting chairman pending the conclusion of Bawa’s investigation.

The West African Pilot News gathered that the suspended EFCC chairman is in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bawa arrived a few hours ago. The invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him,” Peter Afunanya, the public relations officer of the DSS, said in a statement on Wednesday night.
