The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani, says the pandemonium witnessed on Wednesday 5th June 2023 within Enugu metropolis is a result of false alarm and circulation of fake news aimed at enforcing sit-at-home order in the state.
CP Ammani stated this in the Command’s bulletin signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.
“The Police shall never be deterred by the panic-causing and disinformative schemes of subversive criminal elements, hell-bent on inflicting physical, psychological and socio-economic pains on their brothers and sisters, on the pretext of enforcing the ill-conceived illegal sit-at-home order in the State.”
“This stems from the reports of panic and pandemonium observed in the morning hours of today, 05/07/2023, in some parts of Enugu metropolis and beyond, due to false alarm and the circulation of fake news (texts, pictures, and videos) alleging shootings and attacks by miscreants enforcing the illegal order.”
The Commissioner of Police however reassured Enugu residents of the Police and other security Agent’s unwavering commitment to ensure safety of lives and properties and stand against the unconscionable activities of the criminals.
CP Ammani further vowed to fish out the negative content creators and peddlers of the malicious and misleading information which was not only fake but a senseless false alarm which created panic and chaos for the same people they claim to be agitating for.
Urging citizens to disregard such information and always be vigilant and law abiding, the CP enjoins all to go about their lawful businesses, while reporting the subversive criminal elements and their activities to the nearest Police Station.
