The organized labor comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) has carried out mass protests across the country including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Protesting workers have gathered in different locations in various states before embarking on the peaceful protest to press for demands which include among others immediate implementation of the resolutions with the congress signed with the Government and TUC.

Others demand the reversal of the recent hike in PMS Prices, School fees, and fixing local refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna as well as payment of 8 months of withheld salaries of university lecturers and workers.

In the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, protesters numbering over 5,000 first converged at the Unity Fountain, Abuja, close to Transcorp Hilton Hotel, and then matched to the Federal Ministry of Justice before proceeding to the National Assembly.

At the National Assembly, security personnel initially prevented the protesting crowd from gaining entrance to the complex, but upon their superior officers’ intervention, the gate was open.

Both President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, and his TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo led the protest in the nation’s capital.

The protest was held in Osun state, members of the Osun Civil Societies Coalition joined by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and National Union of Electricity Employees, held another protest march through major streets in Osogbo.

Similar protests were held in Kwara, Kano, and Abia.
