Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has advocated for diplomatic community deployment of more support to the Sukur Kingdom.
Sukur Kingdom is the first world heritage site in Nigeria and is situated in the Madagali local government area of Adamawa State.
The Governor stated this Monday when he received the Philippines Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Rodrico Atienza who was on a working visit to the state in the Government House Yola.
Fintiri urged for capacity building and other support to make the site more attractive towards improving the tourism sector in Adamawa and Nigeria as a whole.
“The state government will continue to ensure adequate provision of all the necessary infrastructure that will improve the Sukur World Heritage site.
“The Ambassador’s visit will usher in more support, particularly in the area of education, to better schools among other things at the site,” Fintiri said.
The Governor lamented that teachers in the state decline posting to schools in Sukur village, however, the state government is committed to providing equal opportunity to the children in the kingdom.
Earlier, the Philippines Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Rodrico Atienza said the Philippine government will strengthen collaboration with the diplomatic community to expand the Sukur tourism site.
Atienza observed that peace was restored at the Sukur Kingdom after the Boko Haram crises in recent years, and noted with satisfaction his experience while visiting the world heritage site for the first time.
