Chief Bode George, Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) to call for a fresh election, pointing out that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) told Nigerians that there was a glitch during the election process.

George spoke on Channels TV on Tuesday stressing that he wasn’t asking the tribunal to declare the PDP, the Labour Party (LP) or anybody as winner but in the interest of peace and to save the nation’s democracy, call for a fresh election.

He said, “I’ve been a very key watcher of political development in this country. Thank God that we’re back to democratic governance, in other words, “The government of the people, for the people and by the people” It’s the will of the people that will be respected. We’ve an agency that was to conduct the election. The agency was completely entrusted to manage and ensure that the process was seamless.

“At the end of the day, there was an announcement by the chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu that there was a glitch on the system.

He added, “I’m an engineer by profession. I said to myself if there was a glitch, then it has invalidated the whole process.

“First of all, let me thank former President Muhammad Buhari for introducing modern technology in the electoral process, because in the past elections have been handled, manipulated by all kinds of marauders. They manipulated the figures and came up with solutions that were archaic, and unacceptable.

“The day Buhari announced that they’ve spent so much money acquiring modern technology to handle the electoral process, I had a party in my office. I was so grateful that we were going to lift the doldrums of hell to the civilized level of civility.

“There was a test run in Anambra State, no problem. There was in Ekiti State, no problem. There was also another one in Osun State, no problem. They used the same modern technology.

“Yakubu announced just before the election that they had done a test run ahead of the general elections, I was so happy.

“On the day of the election, the INEC chairman announced to the world that there was a glitch. I was so mortified beyond words.

“Eventually we resorted to the old archaic system where you have a lot of people manipulating results. You also heard all the things that they said during the tribunal.

“I’m asking for a moral purpose, democracy is about the will of the people. “The government of the people for the people and by the people”

“Selecting the choice of who should be president, governor, senator, should never be through the court. Democracy shouldn’t be defined as the government of the judiciary, for the judiciary and by the judiciary,” George added.
