The management of Splash FM, one of the leading radio stations in Nigeria, has placed an indefinite ban on broadcasting Naira Marley songs across all its stations in the country.
The latest development was contained in an internal memo that was circulated to members of staff of the media organisation on Monday.
The radio station cited the ongoing police investigation into the tragic death of musician Mohbad, a former signee under Naira Marley’s Marlian Records label.
“In view of the sensitive nature around the death of Mohbad and the criminal procedure the police has commenced, I will urge us all to exercise discretion,” the statement said.
“To this effect, Naira Marley’s songs have become NTBB (not to be broadcast) on our stations until further notice.”
Naira Marley, born Azeez Fashola, has been at the centre of controversy following death of Mohbad, born Promise Aloba.
Although no evidence has directly placed Naira Marley as the killer, the public is raising suspicions, especially because of his strained relationship with the late singer.
