NewsNigeriaBoko Haram sack locals in eight Borno villages

Eight communities in Kaga LGA of Borno State are now desolate following a chilling vacation notice issued to locals by Boko Haram jihadists.

The rebel group, The PUNCH reports, ordered residents to desert their respective communities or face severe attacks as a form of vengeance after the Nigerian military slew scores of gang members.

The terror group accuses the communities of betraying them by refusing to inform them about an impending attack by the military which led to the death of several of their combatants.

Locals were given only three days to leave or face dire consequences. At the expiration of the ultimatum, the terrorists in their hundreds stormed the villages, driving people out of their houses and killing many.

Survivors of the ordeal have fled to Benishek, a nearby village that houses the LGA headquarters, to resettle as internally displaced persons.

“The villagers have since been trooping to Benishek as IDPs with their families,” a Benishek local Baba Goni told The PUNCH, “and on their way to Benishek, they have to be manoeuvering through bush paths to avoid coming across the terrorists, who have already killed some of them.”

The Chairman of Sector 6 of the Borno State quasi-military vigilantes, Umar Harka, who also confirmed to attack, said  “About 2,000 have so far fled to Benishek.”

“Right now a combined force of troops and members of the CJTF have been deployed to the area to comb the bush and trace the locations of the insurgents,” he added.
