A few months for the tenure of local government councils in Adamawa State to elapse, the legislative arm of Numan Local Government Council has served the Council Chairman Pharmacy Christopher Sofore with a letter of impeachment over alleged financial misappropriation and administrative lapses.
The councilors said their action was based on section 20 (1) of the Adamawa State Local Government System Establishment and Administration Law 200 of the Local Government Laws of Adamawa State.
Some of the allegations against the council chairman are the diversion of (thirteen million nairas (N13,000,000) realized from auctioning grounded vehicles and other equipment of the council, purchase of a car at the cost of seven million naira (7,000,000)without council approval.
Others are avoiding security meetings, accusing Governor Ahmadu Umaru FIntiri of using the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to siphon local government funds, spending local government money without due process, and refusing to pay Councillors their entitlements.
Efforts to speak to the Council Chairman Pharmacy Christopher Sofore over the allegation proved futile, as his cell phone was switched off.
