The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Police Command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu urges citizens to refrain from sending out information on acts of crime and security without recourse to the police first.

CP Uzuegbu said victims or their family members who narrate their ordeals to disseminate such to the public should know that the hoodlums are also on social media and as such hampering the police’s successful bursting of their hideouts.

The Commissioner stated this in the wake of a viral audio on the criminal activities around the Holy Ghost Cathedral Church and Railway axis of the Enugu metropolis.

In the audio message, a young man narrated his ordeal in the hands of kidnappers and possible organ harvesters who intercepted him and the tricycle he boarded on his way back from the village around 8 pm.

The yet-to-be-identified young man said all his money was transferred, at the hideout he saw a dead person who was dismembered but he was saved because one of the kidnappers spoke his dialect which he leveraged to evoke compassion from his brother; the man is from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.

The Command’s official bulletin signed by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe states, “Although the Command is yet to identify and properly debrief the alleged victim, it has, however, strengthened operational and investigative activities in the said area, to rid it of any forms of crime and criminality.”

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, PSC (+), has urged the alleged victim to make himself available for the Police debriefing, which he says is necessary to authenticate the allegation and to make ongoing policing actions in the area more purposeful and productive.”

“The CP, however, advised citizens against hastening to share and spread such security situations in the media, without first reporting and allowing the Police to diligently act on such information. He notes that such hampers and makes effective policing and crime management difficult and unproductive.”

The Commissioner also encourages the citizenry to remain supportive and promptly report suspected or experienced acts of crime to the nearest Police Station or call the Command’s hotlines, 08032003702, 08086671202, 08075390883, or 08098880172.

Reports can also be sent to the Command’s email; infoenugupolice@gmail.com.
