…this was Barely 2 Weeks, 6 Months After Previous Incidents

The collapse of a five-storey building under construction at Basden Street, Fegge, in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State has been confirmed by the state police command.
This is coming barely two weeks after a building under construction collapsed; killing five persons in Ochanja Market, same Onitsha, and six months after another, still under construction, killed a man and his two sons at Egbu Umuenem Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the latest incident to newsmen, said details of the incident was still sketchy, and that police operatives have been deployed to the venue.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, an eyewitness said the building, meant to serve commercial purposes on completion, collapsed in the early hours of Sunday while some of the workers were on the fifth floor.
According to the eyewitness, the building, nearing completion, started collapsing from the fifth floor and trapped two workers in it, as well as injured others who were later rushed to hospitals.
An official of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency said they were yet to be informed about the collapsed building.
