The pathetic story of Funmilayo Adeluyi in Ondo State who was stabbed to death in her sleep by her teenage house help   has kept family members and friends in shock.

Accordng to reports, Funmilayo was seen last in her office, Ministry of Finance in Akure, Ondo State capital on Wednesday last week accompanied by her teenager house help.

When some people living in the neighborhood at Oda Town, Akure, couldn’t see her, they came to look for her, but her house help would rush to the gate to tell them she was not around despite her car being packed in the compound.

On Sunday, when residents began to perceive a pungent stench from the compound, they informed the police and the gate and door of her 3-bedroom bungalow along Superjet Road, Premier Estate, off Oda Road in Ondo Town were forced open.

On entering the house, the odour became stronger and Funmilayo was found in her full dress and shoes she wore on Wednesday when she attended the inauguration of new permanent secretaries in the state on Wednesday.

She lay in the pool of her blood in her living room but her body had begun to decompose, showing that she had died a few days earlier.

It was discovered that the gate to the house was locked with a padlock from outside.

Neighbours, who spoke with newsmen, disclosed that the deceased lived alone with her teenager house help simply identified as Wumi.

They revealed that the house help sometimes had mental problems and had medical treatments severally. She was said to have been withdrawn from her school, Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School, Akure, when her condition assumed a serious dimension.

She’s currently in SSS2 in a private school where Funmilayo got her enrolled later.

According to one of the sources that preferred anonymity, she was advised to take the girl to her parents because of the issue, but she refused perhaps because she felt the treatment she gave her would be enough.

“How can one be living with a person with a mental problem.”

Another eyewitness, who saw the deceased’s remains revealed that she was stabbed in the belly region.

He said: “You can see blood everywhere from her bedroom to the living room as she struggled to get out and find help, but because the doors were shut against her she could not make it.

“The knife her attacker used to kill her was found beside her. This is really very sad.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the case is under investigation.
