Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, on Friday during the convergence of the institution’s alumni and friends, received a commitment from guests, towards the institution’s development. The event, a university programme designed by the school’s management to enhance collaboration between the university and the larger society for accelerated development, has Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, as the keynote speaker, while Hon. Prof. Oby Orogbu was the chairperson of the occasion and Prof. Chike Okoli, was the guest lecturer. During her opening remarks, the chairperson of the occasion, Hon. Prof. Oby Orogbu, reminded the alumni, friends of the university, and stakeholders, of the need to boost partnerships to move the institution forward. “With the caliber of individuals Unizik has produced over the last three decades, it is disheartening that we are still discussing fundraising for the completion of the alumni building today,” Hon. Orogbu said. However, she expressed optimism that the gathering and outreach will yield fruit and be the catalyst to spur the university alumni and friends into committing to moving the university forward.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, encouraged the university alumni, friends, and stakeholders to join hands in advancing the institution. “Nnamdi Azikiwe University is old enough and has produced many alumni holding key positions in the public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy. I therefore challenge them as individuals and associations to mobilize funds to undertake iconic projects in the university,” the Vice Chancellor said.

On his part, the keynote speaker, Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah ably represented by Ebuka Onyekwelu, talked about the importance of the university’s collaboration with the wider society in education and research, capacity building for youths and infrastructure development, among others.
