In a successful counter-terrorism operation, Nigerian Army troops thwarted a potential attack in Kaduna State on Saturday, 13th April 2024.
Acting on credible intelligence, the military targeted a group of terrorists known to use motorbikes to carry out attacks in the region. The ambush took place in Rafin Sariki village of Giwa Local Government Area.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Public Relations for the Nigerian Army, said, in a press statement on Sunday, that the terrorists were “transiting with a sack containing weapons.”
A gunfight ensued as the troops intercepted the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of two members of the group. No Nigerian soldiers were reported wounded or killed in the operation.
The Nigerian Army also recovered weapons and equipment from the defeated terrorists, including an AK-47 rifle, 52 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one locally fabricated revolver frame.
The successful operation highlights the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of the Nigerian people.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizenry and the nation in general. The Nigerian Army will thus, continue to take decisive actions against terrorist activities in the region,” Gen. Nwachukwu noted.
