Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has made a powerful plea for national unity in the face of ongoing terrorism threats.
Speaking at the Unity Schools Old Students Association, USOSA, sports carnival in Abuja on Saturday, General Musa urged Nigerians to set aside tribal and religious differences to confront a common enemy.
“Nigeria is challenged; so we need a united Nigeria to confront all the challenges we are facing,” General Musa declared. He emphasised the importance of Nigerians coming together to fight banditry, terrorism and other crimes.
Nigeria has been grappling with various security challenges, including Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, insurgencies in the north, as well as banditry and kidnapping in several regions.
General Musa’s call for unity highlights the complexities of these issues and the need for a collective effort to address them.
The country’s top military officer emphasised the importance of Nigerians working together to support the military and security forces in their fight against these threats.
He stressed, “Nigerians must unite and confront the evil that is coming against us. So many people do not like the blessings we are having as a country. We must shame them by working together as a team and together we will continue to move forward.”
The Defence Chief’s message comes amidst recent attacks by terrorist groups. While Gen. Musa was at the sports event, an improvised explosive device planted by suspected ISWAP militants claimed the lives of eight members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, in Borno State.
