A Boko Haram militant, Sajeh Yaga, willingly surrendered to Nigerian army troops on Sunday.
The surrender took place in the town of Mafa, a location frequently targeted by Boko Haram attacks.
Details surrounding the reasons for the militant’s decision to defect remain unclear. However, it might not be unconnected to the heightened military operations against the terrorists that have led to a wave of increased Boko Haram defections in recent months.
The surrendered militant handed over his weapons, including an AK47 rifle, four AK47 magazines, six 7.62mm special ammunitions and three Tecno mobile phones and other items to the troops and is currently undergoing questioning by military authorities.
