The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also called Shiietes has clarified claims by some members of other Islamic sects in the country that they are violent, regretting that they even compare them with Boko Haram.
Alhaji Shehu Bello, the leader of the Fulani section of the movement who spoke in Birnin Kebbi during the maulud celebration organised to immortalise distinguished Islamic pillars like the daughter of the holy prophet Fatima, his grandchildren and their leader sheik Ibrahim Elzazzaky.
According to him, the maulaud seeks to enlighten members on the role the distinguished scholars and pillars of Islam played to spread the religion by educating them on how to love and cherish their scholarly works just the way Usmanu Dan Fodio did to bring Islam to light.
Speaking on the claim by other Islamic sects and the general public that they are violent, he noted that a violent movement wouldn’t allow the massacre of over 300 members by the Nigerian military at Zaria which was followed by destruction of their supreme leader’s house and no reprisal attack.
He said, “We are not violent but poised to spread the message to the people willing to accept what we are doing.”
The event which was held at Fodiya in Birnin Kebbi drew top shiites clerics from Sokoto and elsewhere who came to celebrate with their sisters and brothers in Kebbi State.
