US President Joe Biden has officially announced his withdrawal from the presidential race.

In a statement released on Sunday, Biden said he wants to “focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term”
Also, in a surprising move, President Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred candidate.

“I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” Biden said. He urged his party, the Democratic Party, to rally behind Harris.

“Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” he added.

Kamala Harris, in her response, expressed gratitude for Biden’s endorsement. “I am honoured to have the President’s endorsement,” she said.

“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

Harris is expected to announce her campaign plans in the coming days if her candidacy gets the support of the party.

The Republican Party has yet to officially respond to this development.

This announcement marks a pivotal moment in the race to the White House, with both parties now gearing up for a highly contested election season.
