Aliyu Musa, the Katsina State Police Commissioner has stated that, so far, no individual or groups have applied for clearance from the police to participate in the protest which is scheduled to commence from 1st August.

Musa stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the state Acting Governor, Faruk Jobe, attended by members of the State Executive Council, members of the State House of Assembly and heads of security agencies in Katsina on Monday.

The state Police boss however assured individuals and groups in the state that wish to participate in the protest that police will provide security for them throughout the period of the protest.

According to him, individuals and groups that intend to participate in the protest are required to apply for clearance from the police wherein they would write their names and addresses.

Meanwhile, some youth groups, NGOs, market unions and trade associations at the meeting pledged to shun the protest.

The representative of one of the Youth groups ‘We Nigerians’, Comrade Hamza Umar, explained that the group has decided to shun the protest considering the risk it poses to National security.

Saulawa urged youths in the state to stay away from the protest and rather use dialogue and other peaceful means to present their demands to government.

In his submission, the National Secretary of an NGO, ‘Voice of the Masses’, Comrade Bishir Dauda said the group will also shun the protest which he said could throw the country into chaos.

The representatives of market unions and trade associations who spoke at the meeting expressed fears that the protest could result in the looting of shops and destruction of property in markets and corner shops.

The Katsina State Acting Governor, Alhaji Faruk Lawal Jobe, in his remark, thanked the groups for deciding to stay away from the protest while assuring them that the state government will continue to invest in the welfare of people of the state.

Recall that earlier in the month, Governor Dikko Radda transmitted power to his deputy who would serve in acting capacity while the governor proceeded on medica no leave.
