The Anambra State chapter of the Labour Party – LP, on Wednesday, July 31, held its state congress to elect officers of the party at the state level. The congress which was held at the Best Western Hotel in Awka, the State capital, was adjudged peaceful and devoid of any rancor.
This congress was observed by relevant authorities, LP’s national officers like the Vice National Chairman of the party, Comrade Clement Ojukwu, and leaders of the party like Barr. Benchuks Nwosu, among many others. Subsequently, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh was returned as the Anambra State Chairman of the Labour Party. The exercise was also attended by party stakeholders from all twenty-one local government areas of Anambra State.
After the 2023 Presidential Election, LP made an impressive gain into the Anambra political landscape with about seven elected members in the House of Assembly, two senators, and about three members of the House of Representatives. This gives a hint that the party might do well in the next governorship election in the state if it is well positioned.
Ahead of the 2025 Governorship Election, the LP is gearing up for a fight against the incumbent, currently battling leadership change in APGA, and the APC which is considered stable for a strong political outing. So far, LP has at least four aspirants in the coming gubernatorial election. This number is still expected to increase with time.
