Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, the mother of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, has died at the age of 102.
She passed away on Monday evening at her home, according to a family source.
Her death followed a brief illness at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina.
The funeral prayer has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Yar’Adua family house in the Yar’Adua area of the Katsina metropolis.
Hajiya Dada was renowned for her remarkable family legacy.
Her late son, Umaru Yar’Adua, served as President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010, and another son, Shehu Yar’Adua, achieved the rank of major general in the Nigerian Army and served as Chief of Staff during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration. Her third son, Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, is the current Senator representing Katsina Central and a retired army colonel.
Tributes have poured in for the matriarch of the Yar’Adua family.
The Presidency in a statement on Wednesday said she died at a “venerable age.”
President Bola Tinubu extolled her “legacy of compassion, faith, honesty, and good fellowship.” He extended his condolences to Sen. Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the people of Katsina State, and “to the many lives the matriarch touched.”
Similarly, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed his “profound condolences” to the Yar’Adua family, friends and associates, and the government and people of Katsina State.
His tribute reads, “In the absence of my beloved mother, I adopted Hajiya Dada as a mother. Indeed, she was a mother of multitudes, as her home was always a place of refuge where she welcomed everyone with love. She will be sorely missed.”
