…Commissions 4 Roads in Abakpa Enugu
The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on commissioning of the reconstructed Obinagu Road in Abakpa Nike Enugu renamed it Mike Ejeagha road in honour of folklore music legend, Mike Ejeagha in recognition of his contributions to the cultural heritage of the State.
Governor Mbah further disclosed that the state government will take up sole responsibility for the nonagenarian legend’s upkeep.
Mbah stated this when he commissioned the Mike Ejeagha road alongside four newly constructed and reconstructed roads in Abakpa Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area.
“In recognition of Mike Ejeagha’s immense contributions to the cultural heritage of Enugu State, we have renamed Obinagu Road, leading to his residence and reconstructed earlier in the year, to Mike Ejeagha Road.”
“Enugu is a state rich in history, talent, and culture. It is our duty to honour and celebrate those who have shaped our identity. Today, our government extends full support to Mike Ejeagha, taking responsibility for his upkeep as part of our commitment to preserving the legacies of our indigenous legends.”
“To the residents of Abakpa and Enugu State, we assure you that this is just the beginning. We have recently awarded contracts for the construction of 141 roads and 20 rural roads, and Abakpa is certainly included.”
“Very soon, we will commence the dualization of Penocks Junction on the Enugu-Onitsha Road, extending all the way to Opi-Nsukka. The contract has been awarded, and work will commence shortly. Our commitment to transforming Enugu State is unwavering, with many more roads and projects underway to enhance the lives of our people,” Governor Mbah stated.
When the state Governor and his entourage visited the nonagenarian legend Ejeagha, he said, “Mbah honoured me, beyond my lifetime.”
Roads reconstructed and commissioned in Abakpa include the Mike Ejeagha Crescent where the music legend lives and the adjoining, popular Obinagu Road now renamed as Mike Ejeagha Road; Other roads commissioned were Texaco Bus Stop-Ifo Road, and Nkpor Street.
Earlier in their remarks, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Development and Implementation, assured the governor and residents that the roads were constructed with durability and convenience of road users in mind.
“The typical road cross section of Obinagu Road and Mike Ejeagha Crescent comprise 300 to 600mm-thick sub-grade, 150mm-thick sub-base, 150mm-thick stone base course, 50mm-thick asphalt wearing course, and 600 by 600 to 900 by 900 reinforced concrete drainages and culvert.”
