…Dangote Group says NNPCL has not started lifting petrol from its refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has delivered 30 million barrels of crude oil to the Dangote refinery, according to Adedapo Segun, the Executive Vice President of NNPCL Downstream.

Segun revealed this on Arise Television on Thursday, stating that an additional 17.6 million barrels will be supplied soon. The upcoming delivery of 17.6 million barrels will be split into 6.3 million barrels in September and 11.3 million barrels in October.

This translates to an average daily supply of 288,524 barrels which represents approximately 44 per cent of the refinery’s total capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.

“We’ve supplied over 30 million barrels of crude oil to Dangote refinery so far. This month alone, we will be providing 6.3 million barrels in seven cargoes, and in October, another 11.3 million barrels in 13 cargoes,” Segun stated.

He noted that this move is part of the federal government’s strategy to boost local petroleum production and address recent fuel shortages.

Pilot News earlier reported that the Dangote refinery began petrol production on Tuesday.

According to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, it is expected to supply 25 million litres of petrol daily in September, increasing to 30 million litres per day from October.

On Thursday, the Dangote Group said that the NNPCL has not yet begun lifting Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, from its refinery.

In a statement, Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communications Officer for Dangote Group clarified that the company has not finalised its contract with NNPCL.

“We would like to state that NNPC has not commenced lifting of refined Premium Motor Spirit from our Dangote petroleum refinery,” the statement read.

“Therefore, the issue of fixing the price of petrol lifted from our refinery does not arise, as we are yet to finalise our contract with NNPC.”

The group also noted that the petrol market is heavily regulated, and as such, they cannot set or influence petrol prices, which fall under the jurisdiction of relevant government authorities.

Dangote Group assured Nigerians that high-quality petroleum products will be made available nationwide within a short time.
