A fatal auto crash has claimed the life of a five-year-old girl along the Onitsha-Enugu Old Road by Oye Agu Junction, Abagana, in Anambra State.
Four other people sustained various degrees of injuries in the road mishap, which occurred on Wednesday.
Reacting to the accident, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, cautioned drivers and transporters to conduct necessary checks before traveling, especially during the Ember months.
According to the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary information revealed that the accident occurred due to brake failure of the Toyota Sienna vehicle, which was carrying passengers and en route to Lagos. The accident happened when the vehicle’s brakes failed and it rammed into traders selling by the roadside at Oye Agu Junction.
The Commissioner, while expressing condolences to the family of the deceased, directed the arrest and interrogation of the driver. He also stated that the vehicle has been recovered at the station and that the investigation is ongoing.
