The Department of State Services, DSS, has released six of the protesters arrested during the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations in Kaduna State.
The protests, which took place between 1 and 10 August 2024 were organised in response to the economic difficulties facing Nigerians.
Sources within the DSS confirmed on Sunday that the six protesters were released after investigations were concluded, while three others are set to be arraigned.
A DSS source said, “On September 19, 2024, six persons held in Kaduna were released after being cleared at the end of investigations. Meanwhile, three are being prosecuted as prima facie cases have been established against them.”
The source further stated that the DSS Director-General directed the release of the protesters who had been arrested during the demonstrations, reaffirming the DSS’s commitment to investigating and prosecuting those involved in criminal activities.
Meanwhile, on 2 September, the police arraigned 10 activists, including a British citizen, Andrew Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich, on charges of treason and conspiracy to destabilise the country.
