Soldiers of the Nigerian Army have killed two bandits during an operation to rescue four abducted victims in Mai-Iddo village, Kachia local government area of Kaduna State.
The incident took place during a planned ransom exchange, where the kidnappers sought to collect N1.5 million from the victims’ relatives.
The troops, acting on intelligence, ambushed the kidnappers and opened fire as they emerged to collect the ransom.
A community leader confirmed the incident, explaining that the victims — three females and a child — had been kidnapped on a farm last week.
According to him, the operation involved collaboration between the soldiers, a vigilante group, and the individual tasked with delivering the ransom.
“The arrangements had been concluded with the troops, with the man who will be taking the ransom to them and a vigilante. On getting to the particular location, the troops took cover,” the community leader explained.
“As two of the bandits came out to pick the ransom, the troops opened fire at them and killed the two of them instantly,” he added.
The four abuducted victims were safely rescued by the soldiers and reunited with their families.
However, as of press time, the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue a statement on the operation.
