Operatives from the Enugu State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping, Distress Response and Special Intervention Squads on Friday night successfully raided a kidnappers’ hideout in Nokpa-Nike community in Enugu East Local Government Area in Enugu state.
The operation led to the rescue of a male victim, a personal assistant (PA) to a public figure (names withheld for security purposes), who was kidnapped by the gang on Friday September 27, 2024 at Trans-Ekulu in Enugu.
While two suspected members of the gang were gunned down during the gun duel with the Police operatives, others fled; a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and others linked to the syndicate is underway according to the Police PRO.
The official bulletin signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe reveals information on the raid and successful rescue of the victim;
“On October 17, 2024, around 8 p.m., operatives from the Enugu State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping, Distress Response and Special Intervention Squads, raided a kidnappers’ hideout in Nokpa-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area.”
“Preliminary investigations revealed that this criminal group had demanded a ransom of forty million Naira (N40,000,000.00) for the release of the victim.”
“During the operation, the police recovered one G-3 rifle, two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and one hundred twenty-five rounds of live ammunition.”
DSP Ndukwe further said that some members of this criminal group had been arrested in the past; they are largely responsible for several kidnappings within Enugu metropolis and its environs.
As is the rule in Enugu State, the building werein the kidnappers used for their criminal acts was destroyed immediately by the Enugu State Government.
Commending the operatives efforts and diligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reiterated the command’s unwavering resolve to eradicate crime and violence in the state.
CP Uzuegbu further calls on the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to support the police in their efforts.
