The Police Inspector who murdered a popular Ogene musician, Chikezie Okezie Nwamba also known as Igbo-Jah, at the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad facility in Enugu has been dismissed from the Nigerian Police Force and remanded in Correctional Custodian Centre, Enugu.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer Enugu State Command said the dismissal of the errant former Police Inspector, Ozonwanji Joseph was in line with the judgment reached at the Orderly Room Trial of the officer.
“The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13 (covering Anambra and Enugu State Commands), approved the orderly trial recommendations to dismiss and prosecute the Inspector in court. Hence, he has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and was arraigned at the Enugu East Magistrate Court today, October 28, 2024, for the offense of murder,” DSP Ndukwe said.
The PPRO further revealed, “The Chief Magistrate has ordered the remand of the former officer in the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre and the transmission of the case file to the Attorney General of Enugu State for further judicial action; the trial was adjourned to November 12, 2024.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reiterated that errant officers will not be excused but held accountable for their actions.
CP Uzuegbu reemphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined government agency with the mandate of law enforcement.
The Commissioner expresses gratitude to the state government and the public for their understanding and support during the case’s trial and prays for the deceased’s family and associates.
