The Anambra State House of Assembly during plenary on Thursday, considered the Anambra State Gaming Bill, brought to the Assembly by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme. After a robust debate in which many House members contributed and extolled the Bill, citing various advantages to the state and citizens, the Bill was then read for the second time.
A bill for a law for professional lottery, and the likes operational in Anambra State, according to Speaker, deserves an accelerated hearing and passage. The bill which was referred by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somto Udeze, to the House of Assembly Committee on Internally Generated Revenue chaired by Hon. Jude Ngobili, after it passed the second reading, is expected to return to the House for further consideration in two weeks.
Among other things, the Anambra State Gaming Bill, 2024 seeks to regulate all games of chance in Anambra State, ensuring the integrity of the games and also making sure that revenue due to the government accrues to it.
Similarly, the Anambra State Elderly and Senior Citizens Health Care Bill sponsored by Hon. Noble Igwe, came up for second reading, but was stepped down to the next adjourned date.
