A recent global study has ranked the best airports for sleeping during layovers, with Seoul Incheon International Airport in South Korea taking the top spot.
The study, conducted by Onebed, assessed airports based on sleepability ratings, passenger density, availability of free resting areas, and total passenger traffic
Seoul Incheon, with a composite score of 86, offers eight free resting areas and a low passenger density of 3,823 per acre, making it the ideal spot for a comfortable layover.
Following closely in second place is Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesia, which scored 73, providing seven free resting areas but with a higher passenger density of 9,895 per acre.
Germany’s Frankfurt Airport ranked third with a score of 69, offering six free resting areas and a moderate passenger density of 10,444 per acre.
Orlando International Airport in the United States placed fourth with a perfect sleepability rating of 5/5. Despite offering just one free resting area, the airport’s large size and relatively low passenger density of 4,975 per acre contribute to a comfortable resting environment.
Other notable airports in the top ten include Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand (5th), Beijing Capital International Airport in China (6th), and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in China, which boasts the lowest passenger density at 2,266 per acre, ranking 7th.
Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada (8th), Istanbul Airport in Turkey (9th), and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands (10th) also made the list, providing various levels of comfort for weary travellers.
Dylan Tollemache, Co-Founder & CEO of Onebed, commented, “Travelers today are increasingly looking for comfort and convenience during long layovers or unexpected delays, and airports are responding with better amenities to help people get some rest.
“What really stands out is the effort some airports, like Seoul Incheon and Chengdu Tianfu, are making to create restful spaces, whether through low passenger density or dedicated nap areas. It’s great to see airports providing more than just a place to wait, but offering a truly relaxing experience that makes a big difference during a journey.”
