The Acting Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a stern warning to terrorists and criminals operating across the country, stating that the military is prepared to take decisive action against them.

“Nobody has a monopoly of violence besides those of us in uniform,” Oluyede declared during the handover ceremony at the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps in Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna, on Wednesday.

“For the criminals out there, they should be ready for a good run from us because we are going to go all out for them. As for Nigerians, we will try as much as possible to make it more secure for them under my watch.”

Lt.-Gen. Oluyede, who was the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps before his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as the Acting COAS, officially handed over the command to Maj.-Gen. Abdul-Khalifa Ibrahim, the 57th Commander of the Infantry Corps.

Oluyede described the infantry as the backbone of the Nigerian Army and urged his successor to prioritise massive training for soldiers in the field.

In his remarks, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim expressed gratitude for Oluyede’s contributions to the Infantry Corps and pledged to uphold its legacy.

“On my part, I pledge to lead the infantry with integrity, courage, honour and utmost dedication, embracing best practices in all I do,” he said.

Ibrahim, a member of the 39th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, hails from Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. He has held key positions, including General Officer Commanding 7 Division Maiduguri and Commander of the MultiNational Joint Task Force in Chad.

He called on personnel to continue upholding the Army’s core values of loyalty, integrity, discipline, and courage in their duties.
