Ten individuals suspected of sabotaging the state’s wheat production programme have been arrested by the Jigawa Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

Barr. Salisu Abdu, Chairman of the commission told newsmen in Dutse that the suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal diversion of subsidized farm inputs intended for grassroots farmers.

“The suspects were involved in bypassing the proper channels established by the Jigawa State Government for the distribution of fertilizers and other farming items to wheat farmers.

“The commission recovered two truckloads of fertilizers that were illegally acquired”. Abdu said.

One of the suspects, Muhammad Musa who denied any wrongdoing claimed that he had followed all proper procedures to acquire the fertilizers at the subsidized rate and paid for the inputs based on his information about his eligibility.

Meanwhile, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Jigawa State Chapter has condemned the alleged extortion of farmers by fraudulent individuals impersonating AFAN leaders.

Auwal Garba Ibrahim, AFAN State chairman in a statement said the association had no involvement in such activities and had not charged farmers for any services or programmes.
