In Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Nsukka Local Government Area, a 33years old man severed the left wrist of his wife, Chinonso Echege over alleged infidelity.
The suspect, Mr. Sunday Echege upon interrogation when arrested by the Enugu State Police Command operatives of the Okpuje Division confessed that he acted out of suspicion that his wife is having an extramarital affair.
Eyewitness accounts that the couple were engaged in a heated argument when the husband suddenly dashed into the house and came out with a machete;
Although Mr. Echege aimed at the wife’s head, in a reflex action she raised her hands to shield herself; this resulted in her left hand being completely severed and the other badly injured.
The Enugu State Police Command’s official bulletin signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe confirming this dastard act also revealed that upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspect, Mr. Echege will be arraigned in court.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, urges couples to resolve their differences through love, understanding, and legal means, rather than resorting to violent criminal acts.
