Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has restated that the ban on cutting trees for charcoal production and illegal mining is still firmly in place.
The Governor re-echoed the ban on Saturday in Gombi, in the Gombi local government area of the state, while presenting the 3rd Class Staff of Office to the newly Kumu One of Gombi Chiefdom, His Royal Majesty, Aggrey Bechour Ali.
He directed traditional rulers and security agencies to ensure that those who violate the ban are apprehended and prosecuted.
The Governor charged the Kumu one of Gombi, to collaborate with security agencies to ensure peaceful coexistence in the Chiefdom, describing the struggle as a story of realistic hope for a brighter future.
“All sons and daughters of Gombi: from Tawa to Garkida, Balhona to Fotta, indeed from all across Gombi Chiefdom, to support the Kumu Gombi and the chiefdom towards making it a model of peace, harmony, solidarity, progress, and development.
“As a historian, I’m aware that the ethnic groups that made up the Gombi Chiefdom have great history, culture, and tradition in their ranks.
“It is therefore gratifying that they all come together and requested for a chiefdom which is firmly written in history and contemporary realities,” Fintiri said.
In his acceptance speech, Kumu one Gombi of Gombi Chiefdom, His Royal Majesty, Aggrey Bechour Ali pledged to rule with fairness and justice, regardless of faith or ethnicity.
The Kumu One Gombi, pledged Saturday at Gombi One primary school while receiving Staff of office as 3rd Class Chief from Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
The monarch said he was humbly honored to be installed as the first Kumu Gombi, saying “It is not just an elevation but a sacred trust bestowed on him by the government and people of the chiefdom.
He said he is aware of the responsibility as well as weight that comes with this title and therefore promised to uphold the dignity and integrity of his office to serve with honesty and transparency to always prioritize the welfare of the people.
HRM Ali therefore extended his gratitude to the governor of the state and his supportive legislative arm for making the coronation a reality.
In his goodwill message, the Lamido Adamawa, who was represented by the Galadima Adamawa Alhaji Mustafa Aminu, congratulated the new chief and charged him to be just and fair to his people, described governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s reign as a period that was filled with development.
The oath of office and allegiance was administered on Kumu by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Hapsat Abdurrahman.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the organizing committee and commissioner of Agriculture, Professor David Jatau described the event as historic as this was the first time Gombi had a chief, and that signified a new dawn in the chiefdom.
He urged the Gombi people to remember their rich cultural traditions as they celebrate this milestone, appreciating the governor for his effort in liberating the people and releasing them from bondage.
He therefore prayed for God’s protection and wisdom for the Kumu I in running the affairs of the chiefdom as he called for the people to remain united and in peace with each other.
