The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, calls on the public to refrain from disseminating false information, as this can adversely affect the peace and unity of the nation.
SP Ndukwe stated this in response to the viral video of alleged police brutality of a youth in Enugu who refused a phone search.
“In this age of social media, we really need to deal with misinformation and, at its extreme, disinformation. Yes, I mean we—you and me—all of us.”
“A thorough review of the video, which is currently recirculated by one “De-Oracle”, revealed that the incident occurred over five years ago, on January 4, 2020.”
“The video was deliberately recycled and in circulation again to mislead the public and create unnecessary, unwarranted tension between the police and law-abiding citizens.”
The official bulletin signed by the PPRO also revealed that the police officers who assaulted the young man have been disciplined accordingly.
“The Police Officers were immediately identified, tried, and appropriately sanctioned following the disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Force,” SP Ndukwe revealed.
The Command further assures the public of her unwavering commitment to professionalism, respect for human rights, and the rule of law.
