The Adamawa State Government has proposed a “give and take” agreement between Nigeria and Cameroon as a measure to resolve the lingering border demarcation problem between the two countries.

Stakeholders include traditional rulers, religious leaders, representatives of security agencies, and Adamawa State government officials from four border local government areas in Adamawa state, including Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, and South Mubi held a meeting in Mubi to discuss a proposed diplomatic solution to the border demarcation issues.

Adamawa State Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, who chaired the meeting convened by the state boundary committee, said it aimed to raise awareness among stakeholders and ensure the successful implementation of the agreement.

“The proposed agreement is seen as a crucial step towards finding a lasting solution to the dispute which caused tensions between Nigeria and Cameroon.

“This agreement is expected to promote peace, harmony, development, and economic prosperity along the border areas.

“Nigeria and Cameroon have a long history of bilateral ties, including trade and cultural exchanges. Resolving the boundary dispute is expected to strengthen the ties and promote economic cooperation between the two countries,” she said.

Farauta then commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his unwavering support in resolving the boundary dispute between Nigeria and Cameroon.
