20 Billion fundraising for Enugu State Security Trust fund

Over three billion naira has been raised for the Enugu State Security Trust Fund at the fundraising dinner organized by the Board of Trustees of the Security Trust Fund at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu.

An official statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on Media, Mr. Dan Nwomeh reveals that more than N3billion Naira was realized at the dinner from individuals and corporate bodies.

Recounting his administration’s interventions on security at the event, the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah said sustainable security in any state requires collective effort.

“Twenty months ago, our security landscape told a different story; a story of fear, disruption, and helplessness. The infamous “sit-at-home” order crippled businesses, disrupted education, and left families in distress. Criminal gangs openly challenged our security forces, and our streets were empty.”

“But today, the transformation is undeniable. We have reclaimed our city. Nightlife has returned, businesses thrive, and our children can now attend school without fear.”

“We have invested heavily in security infrastructure, from our cutting-edge Command and Control Centre to AI-enhanced surveillance and Distress Response Squad (DRS). These are not just interventions but assurances that Enugu will remain safe, secure, and open for business,” Gov. Mbah assures.

“However, security is not just a government responsibility. It requires collective action. That is why the Enugu State Security Trust Fund exists, to ensure that our progress is not just sustained but strengthened. Our target of N20 billion this year is ambitious, but with shared commitment, it is within reach,” Mbah said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Enugu State Security Trust Fund and Group Managing Director of Afrinvest West Africa Ltd., Dr. Ike Chioke, at the event, said that to achieve the state governor’s $30 billion GDP goal, financial collaboration amongst citizens, corporate bodies, and all tiers of government is needed.

“Our population as a state is well over 5 million people and we have about 2 million working adults; assuming each person contributes N1,000 every month, that is N2 billion a month already.”

“If you get N2 billion naira a month for 12 months, it means that the citizens alone can raise N24 billion. That is for individuals alone before adding the government. That tells you our capacity,” Dr. Ike Chioke said.

Another stakeholder at the event Prince Arthur Ezeh, commended the efforts of the state Governor at securing lives and properties in the state even his giant strides at other critical infrastructural development.

“The Enugu State Governor has a similar character to M.I Okpara (Premier of Eastern Nigeria during the first Republic). In less than one year, this man-Governor Mbah transformed Enugu State. Because of what he has done, I am very happy as an Igbo man and happy that we have very intelligent people,” Prince Arthur Eze said.

The security Fund is aimed at mobilizing resources in cash and kind from both public and private corporate organizations, as well as well-meaning individuals, local and abroad.

The primary objective of ESSTF is to provide support to security agencies operating within the state by equipping them with the necessary crime-fighting equipment and resources.
