NewsNigeriaPoliticsInternational Women’s Day: Tinubu Pledges Greater Opportunities for Women

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting gender equality and removing barriers hindering women’s progress in Nigeria.

In his message to mark International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, Tinubu celebrated the resilience and contributions of Nigerian women across various sectors, acknowledging their role in shaping the nation’s future.

“On this International Women’s Day, I celebrate the resilience, brilliance, and indispensable contributions of Nigerian women. You are the bedrock of our nation, driving progress from our homes to our farms, boardrooms, and communities,” Tinubu said.

The President acknowledged that despite the progress made since the Beijing Declaration on gender equality 30 years ago, many women still face significant challenges.

He emphasised his administration’s commitment to expanding access to finance, increasing opportunities in governance, and fostering inclusivity across all sectors, as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“To our mothers, daughters, sisters—your strength fuels Nigeria’s future. Together, we rise,” he added.

International Women’s Day is observed annually on 8 March. This year’s theme, “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment”, highlights the importance of financial and structural empowerment in achieving true gender equality.

Advocacy groups and stakeholders have called for stronger policies and investment in women’s education, entrepreneurship, and political participation.

As Nigeria joins the global community in marking the occasion, attention remains on how government initiatives and policies will translate into tangible improvements for women across the country.
