A coalition of opposition federal lawmakers led by Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere has accused the 27 lawmakers loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, of attempting to stir unrest in Rivers State following the recent Supreme Court ruling that reinstated them to their positions.

The opposition lawmakers further alleged that Wike’s supporters are intentionally refusing to accept the 2025 budget proposal, as mandated by the Supreme Court. They emphasized that this action would not derail governance in the state.

The spokesman of the coalition, Ikenga Ugochinyere further alleged of a plot to frustrate the Rivers Local Government Area election with illegal amendment of law, court orders, saying that regardless of their plan, the election will hold as planned.

The group said, “It’s time for people to continue to stand firm. We’re almost close to the end and that’s why you see more frustrations, more ranting, because the people are arising.

“We’re happy to see that National  Working Committee members are rising, our governors are rising to end this madness of political children who have been spoiled without resistance. Let me at the junction commend one of the members of the opposition family, the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

“Despite the fact that the whole world knows, that the pro Wike lawmakers lost their seats at the time they decamped, everyone saw it, but the Supreme Court in their judgement said Gov Fubara should recognise these lawmakers that decamped from the party on whose platform they were elected.

“Not everybody will have that courage or spirit of peace like Fubara, he surprised most of us. As a democrat, he accepted that judgement whole heartedly and started implementing it immediately.

“The interest of Nyesom Wike is not about peace or progress, it’s about control, as long as he’s not the one controlling the state, nothing should be done. All these litigations about local government or Assembly members are decoys to help him achieve his agenda which is crisis.

“Election has been fixed for August 9. While the indigenes are preparing for elections that the Supreme Court ordered to be reconducted, the Wike group is running around looking for injunction to stop the conduct of the election like they did before running around to amend the local government law to frustrate the election.

“He is now going around claiming that former chairmen, whose terms have expired, should be reinstated. This is sheer madness! It’s clear he wants to control the structure of governance.”

Ugochinyere further stated that the council elections will proceed, adding, “They’re once again resorting to the courts, seeking an injunction to halt a legitimate election mandated by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, they’re secretly trying to amend the local government law in the midst of the election, all to bring back former chairmen who left years ago.”
