Commercial and company vehicles operating within Delta State must observe the mandatory Smoke Emission Permit.
Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Onoriode Agofure, who announced the introduction of the order, stated that the initiative aligns with the Delta State Internal Revenue Law 2020 and will take effect this year.
“The introduction of the permit reflects the administration’s commitment to environmental protection, public health, and sustainable urban transport,” he said.
Agofure explained that the measure aims to reduce the dangers posed by vehicle emissions and promote environmental sustainability, warned that non-compliance would not be tolerated, and that violators could face prosecution.
The Commissioner said vehicle owners are required to obtain the permit from Vehicle Inspection Offices (VIO) across the state.
He urged vehicle owners to comply with the new regulation to avoid penalties and contribute to a safer, cleaner Delta State.
