The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement said the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori has constituted an eight-man Special Investigation Panel (SIP) to investigate the violence.
The statement explained that the panel will focus on uncovering the remote and immediate causes of the incident and any defiance of the police command’s ban on all forms of Durbar and horse-riding during the Sallah celebrations.
The ban, the statement emphasized, was imposed due to security concerns in the state.
The police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident: Usman Sagiru, 20, of Sharifai Quarters, and Nasir Idris, 35, of Kofar Mazugal Quarters. Additionally, the Command has invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning over alleged defiance of the Durbar ban.
The Special Investigation Panel has been directed to act swiftly to ensure that justice is served and that any individuals found culpable are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Command, while reaffirming the prohibition on Durbar activities, warned that violators would face decisive consequences.
It also vowed to clamp down on all forms of thuggery (Daba) and any acts that could threaten public peace.
