NewsNigeriaPoliticsGovernor Soludo Apologizes as he Receives Late Ubah’s Supporters

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has apologized to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah for disqualification in APGA in 2019. The apology came as some of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah’s supporters declared for APGA in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Tuesday. In 2019, Senator Ubah was disqualified from participating in the APGA primary election for the Anambra South senatorial election, and that forced him to leave APGA and joined YPP and later won the election.

The reception of Ubah’s supporters which was held at the International Convention Centre, was attended by Governor Soludo, Hon. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Soludo’s political adviser, the Anambra State APGA Chairman, Barr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, and other party leaders. Chief Akai Egwuonwu, APGA aspirant for the Anambra South senatorial by-election, Bob-Manuel Udokwo, Soludo’s adviser, among many other government officials, were also in attendance. Chief Ebuka Onunkwo who also aspires to contest the Anambra South senatorial seat was equally in attendance.

Speaking, the group said their decision to join APGA was based on Governor Soludo’s performance. The group led by Kamen Ogbonna who was the head of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah’s media, Ben Umeh, a former state officer of the Young Progressives Party – YPP, and others, were received in APGA and given the party’s uniform by the State Chairman, Barr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, as a mark of their membership of APGA.

Reacting, Governor Soludo commenced his speech by observing a minute silence for the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. He then went on to narrate his good relationship with the late senator and remarked that his supporters whom he received were only “rejoining APGA.” Recalling the events of 2019 in which the deceased senator was disqualified from participating in the APGA senatorial primary election, Soludo said that APGA failed Ubah and yielded to some characters known for their buying and selling. “APGA did not treat Ifeanyi Ubah well in 2019 and I apologize posthumously. In 2019, Ebubechukwuzo was poised to win the nomination”, Soludo said. Speaking further, the governor recalled that he suffered a similar fate in APGA in 2013 when leaders of APGA approached him to join the party. “I suffered the same thing in 2013 when the leadership of APGA came to me to join APGA to become Governor. I took one year to think about it. Then, I joined the party. But I was disqualified. I stayed back and said I wasn’t going anywhere. I would have won the nomination if I wasn’t disqualified in 2013. But today, not only that I am APGA governor, I am also the leader of APGA”, Governor Soludo said.

The Governor, who expressed confidence that the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah would have supported him for a second term, said he had a conversation with the late senator that he would help him to secure the APC ticket to make his second return easy, which Prof. Soludo said looked appealing to the late senator.

The governor, who doubles as the leader of the APGA, then emphasized the equality of APGA members, both old and new.
