The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, 18th April, and Monday, 21st April, 2025, as public holidays to mark the upcoming Easter celebrations.
This announcement, made via a press statement issued on Tuesday, allows citizens a four-day break encompassing the Good Friday and Easter Monday observances.
The press statement, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, relayed the government’s decision.
It quoted the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended “heartfelt congratulations to Christians across the country on this joyous occasion.”
Dr. Tunji-Ojo further “emphasised the importance of embodying the virtues of the sacrifice and love displayed by Jesus Christ, having to die for the redemption of man.”
In his message, the Minister also called on Nigerians to utilise the holiday period to “pray for the peace, unity, and stability of the nation.”
He sought to reassure citizens of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “unwavering commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to foster national growth and development.”
Furthermore, Dr Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of the season by extending “love and goodwill to their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity.”
The Minister concluded by wishing “all Christians a blissful Easter celebration and extended warm holiday greetings to all Nigerians.”
