Two communities, Banga and Larh in Dugwaba district of Hong local government area of Adamawa State, have witnessed another incursion by suspected members of the outlawed terrorist group Boko Haram.
The terrorists who struck the communities have killed six people and injured many others, including Police Inspector.
Confirming the incident in a telephone interview, the Commandant of the local security outfit ‘Vigilante Group’, Mr Simon Dabna whose members are assisting security agencies in the maintenance of security in the volatile area said that the terrorists struck the communities at night and shot at the residents randomly.
He explained that some of dead was caused by an explosive device detonated on the Garaha Police Patrol vehicle planted by the terrorists, but fortunately, all occupants, including the driver, had evacuated the vehicle before it triggered the explosive.
Dabna added that the attackers also loot foodstuffs, wares in shops and set houses ablaze leaving trail of woes in the communities.
“Residents of affected communities have fled to Garaha, Hong, Munga for safety. “We are handicapped the official vehicles were grounded due minor maintenance; we don’t have adequate arms to confront the terrorists. We appealed to authorities concern to assist with working materials and patrol vehicle to fight the terrorists. People should also cooperate with security agencies to ensure the issue of insurgents has come to an end in the area,” he said.
The destruction of the Garaha police van further hampers local security efforts, leaving communities vulnerable to future attacks.
