Former Defence Minister, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), has again raised alarm over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, urging citizens not to rely solely on government protection but to take action to safeguard their communities.
Speaking in his hometown, Takum in Taraba State, on Saturday, the retired general said his warning from five years ago still holds true, especially with the resurgence of deadly attacks in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of the country.
“The warning I gave some years ago is still as valid today as it was then. Nigerians must rise and defend themselves,” he said.
Danjuma expressed frustration over the government’s failure to stop the bloodshed, noting that armed groups continue to terrorise villages unchecked.
“We cannot continue to sit and watch while bandits, terrorists, and criminal gangs massacre our people unchecked,” he added.
He urged communities to act swiftly, saying “It is now very clear that the government alone cannot protect us. We must stand up and defend ourselves, our families, and our lands before these criminals overrun the entire country.”
