At least 71 passengers who were kidnapped by armed bandits in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been rescued by Nigerian troops.
The attack happened on Sunday night, 28 April, around 9:10 p.m., along the Faru–Janbako Road.
A truck carrying 80 passengers from Niger State to Sabon Birni in Sokoto State was stopped at Tungan Na-Yarchiga, where gunmen forcefully took everyone on board.
Security sources said troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA responded quickly, working together with the police, the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (ZFSCPG), and local vigilantes known as Yansakai.
The team engaged the attackers in a fierce shootout and succeeded in rescuing 71 hostages, including men, women, and children. The rescued passengers were taken to Faru Hospital for medical checks.
