NewsNigeriaLagos Govt Shuts Down Cubana Chief Priest’s Restaurant Over Illegal Waste Dumping

The Lagos State Government has shut down Donald Restaurant, a popular nightlife spot in Lekki owned by Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest, for violating environmental laws.

The closure came after two staff of the restaurant were caught dumping refuse by the roadside in Lekki Phase 1.

In a post shared on X, the Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, revealed that the agency was alerted in the early hours of Saturday, 18 May, by the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA).

According to him, “A white Ford van with Abuja registration plates GWA 136E was caught in the act of indiscriminately discharging waste.”

The vehicle was traced back to Donald Restaurant, located on Road 14 within the estate.

The two staff involved were apprehended on the spot by LERA’s Chief Security Officer and taken to the LERA Secretariat. Reports say the men tried to offer a ₦100,000 bribe to avoid trouble, but the offer was rejected.

LAWMA’s Monitoring and Compliance Team later arrived, took over the case, and sealed the restaurant for breaching the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.

Gbadegesin stated that the suspects will face prosecution.

He added, “LAWMA remains resolute in its commitment to enforcing environmental regulations across Lagos and urges all residents and businesses to adhere strictly to proper waste management practices. A clean and livable city is everyone’s responsibility.”
