NewsNigeriaPoliticsChildren’s Day: Tinubu Pledges Support to Protect Nigerian Children

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged his administration’s commitment to the protection, welfare, and development of Nigerian children, as the nation marked the 2025 National Children’s Day on Tuesday, 27th May.

President Tinubu described Nigerian children as “the pride and future of our great nation” and restated the government’s constitutional and moral duty to safeguard their rights and nurture their dreams.

This year’s celebration is themed “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation.”

The President noted the theme was timely, stressing the need to build a culture where every Nigerian child feels safe, respected, and heard both offline and online.

He condemned all forms of violence, bullying, and neglect, citing alarming statistics that show up to 65 per cent of school-age children in Nigeria have experienced some form of aggression.

The President highlighted several government initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the full implementation of the National Plan of Action on Ending Violence Against Children (2024–2030). He announced ongoing efforts to review key laws, such as the Child Rights Act and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, to strengthen child protection frameworks nationwide.

Tinubu also praised the domestication of the Child Rights Act by all 36 states, while calling for more holistic community involvement in child protection. He outlined further efforts, such as expanding the Child Protection Information Management System, scaling up school safety guidelines, investing in mother-and-child hospitals, and improving nutrition through the Nutrition 774 programme and school feeding schemes.

The President further urged communities to support the newly launched “See Something, Say Something, Do Something” campaign, encouraging Nigerians to become child protection champions.

“Our children are not just statistics—they are the heart of our nation,” he said. “Let us build a Nigeria where no child suffers in silence and every child grows in dignity, peace, and love.”
