EducationNewsNigeria‘Focus on Wealth Creation, Not White-Collar Jobs,’ NYSC Tells Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised outgoing corps members to turn their focus towards building wealth through entrepreneurship, instead of relying solely on white-collar jobs.

This message was delivered by the NYSC Rivers State Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, during the passing-out ceremony of the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members, held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Addressing the young graduates, Oleghe urged them to carry forward the values they learnt during the service year and become agents of positive change in their various communities.

He encouraged them to channel their creativity and resilience into starting businesses, stressing that the era of waiting endlessly for office jobs is no longer sustainable.

“Creativity, hard work, discipline, focus, determination, and dedication are the ingredients needed to achieve your aspirations,” he said.

“Rather than wait for white-collar jobs, outgoing corps members should channel their energy into establishing businesses and creating wealth with their own hands.”

Giving an update on the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 in Rivers State, Mr Oleghe revealed that 2,302 corps members had successfully completed their one-year mandatory national service.

However, he noted that not all made it to the finish line. “Sadly, we lost two corps members during active service,” he said.

He further disclosed that 17 corps members had their service extended – seven males and 10 females – while two were granted pardon. Twenty-three others, 13 males and 10 females, were recorded as absconders.

Despite the mixed outcomes, Oleghe expressed confidence in the ability of the outgoing corps members to rise to the challenges ahead.
